Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Safety First

  • Park the vehicle on a flat, stable surface and engage the parking brake.

  • Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

  • Open the hood and secure it with the hood prop rod.

  • Wear gloves and safety goggles for protection.

2. Locate the Battery

  • In the Volvo XC40 2019, the battery is located in the engine bay, on the passenger side, underneath a protective cover.

3. Remove the Battery Cover

  • Unclip or unscrew the battery cover, depending on the model. Keep the cover and screws aside. The air filter must be removed to make space to slide the battery out.

4. Disconnect the Battery Terminals

  • Start with the negative terminal (marked with a minus sign, “-”). Use a socket wrench to loosen the nut, and carefully pull the cable off.

  • Then, disconnect the positive terminal (marked with a plus sign, “+”) in the same manner.

⚠️ Tip: Avoid letting the cables touch any metal parts to prevent short circuits.

5. Remove the Battery Hold-Down Clamp

  • Locate and remove the hold-down clamp or bracket securing the battery to the tray using a socket wrench.

6. Lift Out the Old Battery

  • Carefully lift the battery out of the tray. Batteries are heavy, so lift with both hands.

⚠️ Warning: Avoid tilting the battery to prevent acid spills.

7. Install the New Battery

  • Place the new battery in the tray, ensuring the terminals are oriented correctly (negative and positive sides match their corresponding cables).

  • Secure the battery with the hold-down clamp or bracket.

8. Reconnect the Terminals

  • Connect the positive terminal first and tighten the nut securely.

  • Then connect the negative terminal and tighten it.

9. Test the Installation

  • Start the engine to ensure the new battery is functioning correctly.

  • If everything is working fine, reinstall the battery cover.

By following these steps, you can replace the battery in your Volvo XC40 2019 safely and efficiently.
